Over 46,000 children across 215 schools in Liberia now receive a nutritious daily meal
Through their UK Aid Match project, Mary’s Meals are reducing classroom hunger by providing children with a daily meal, and improving access to, and participation in, education.
School feeding not only attracts children into the classroom but it can provide them with the energy and concentration they need to participate fully in class. The promise of a daily meal motivates children like Hawa to go to school and makes them feel strong so they are able to study and learn.
“The food that Mary’s Meals serves here has made me have hope for the future. If I did not receive the food, I would experience hunger in school.”
Not only has this project provided school meals to over 46,000 children, but 575 volunteer cooks have received additional training, which has strengthened community engagement and created volunteer opportunities.
Famatta is one of the volunteers who has received additional training and works at the school that her children attend. Thanks to her and other volunteers her six children now receive a meal each day.
“The food has been a motivating factor for my six children to come to school on a daily basis. The best thing I like about Mary’s Meals is that they continue to provide food to our school which is helping to alleviate hunger among the kids”.
